Over the last 20 years of our covenant with St. Genevieve parish, we have reason to celebrate successes. Student achievement, school enrollment, grade expansion and staff retention are some of the wonderful results of our partnership.
This past year, each of the 9th grade students who took the national exam passed. The school has expanded from grade 6 to grade 9, enabling children to remain in Zoranje when furthering their education. Teachers and staff received raises and are now paid year-round, supporting their desire to remain at St. Genevieve school. A hot meal and notebooks are provided to students, despite inflation and scarcity of supplies. And perhaps the most significant event, as soon as it was safe this past year, school opened and families sent their children to class.
Over the years we have also learned that pastors, due to great fiscal management, are able to assist some impoverished, elderly parishioners that have no other means of support.
Fr. Gaby Noel, the current pastor, and Mr. Gessner, the long-time principal (and a teacher) continually express their heartfelt thanks for our parish’s generosity. And they have expressed that our caring and prayers for St. Genevieve has an uplifting impact on their ability to continually serve, especially during the numerous difficult times that Haiti experiences.
Thank you for your commitment.
