Dear Parishioners and Friends,
I am writing this message from the Mystic Marriott Hotel in Groton on a lovely, sunny autumn afternoon between events taking place at the annual Priests’ Convocation of the Archdiocese of Hartford. Thus, my message will be relatively brief.
I want to thank everyone for a beautiful and joyful celebration of the Feast of St. Francis. From the prayerful Transitus on Thursday evening, October 3rd, to the fun and relaxed atmosphere of our indoor-outdoor Parish Brunch on Sunday, October 6th, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Our music ministry sang some beautiful music during the Transitus as we retold the age-old story of the death of St. Francis, and I am particularly grateful that the Secular Franciscans from our parish were able to take part.
Friday evening’s wine-tasting event called “Wine History: Catholicism’s Controversial Roles,” led by Jennifer Regan-Lefebrve, was a fascinating look into how wine became the beverage of popes and royalty alike.
Saturday’s annual Blessing of Animals (the first one in several years under dry skies!) was a delight for young and old, with plenty of dogs, a few cats, and even a cute rabbit named Nibbles.
Many thanks to all the folks who helped to make the Sunday Parish Brunch such a fun event, especially for all the children who played games and made some marvelous chalk drawings on the sidewalk in the friary gardens. Weatherwise, it turned out to be a perfect day with plenty of sun.
So, now I’m off to the next event here in Groton; Fr. John and I have enjoyed getting together with the priests of the Archdiocese under the new leadership of Archbishop Coyne, who will be invested with the pallium on Monday, October 14th, at St. Joseph Cathedral.
Blessings on your week ahead!
Fr. Tim Shreenan, O.F.M.
