For this season of Lent, we would like to ask you to consider not to give up something but instead to do something to put your faith into action.
“May we start out Holy Week living out our faith by bringing in food items for our brothers and sisters dealing with food insecurity.
– Fr. Mike
Matthew 4:1-11 tells the story of Jesus going out to the desert and he fasted for forty days and forty nights and afterwards was hungry.
We would welcome the chance to feed Jesus, and we can do so by helping to care for the needs of those who face food insecurity. Every day many of us pray “Give us this day our daily bread” and perhaps we can echo the words “so that each person in the world may have enough food” from A Lord’s Prayer for Justice written by Fr. Rolheiser.
Over the 38 days between Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday, we challenge you to set aside $1 each day with the goal of feeding those in need locally.
We will be holding a food drive on Palm Sunday to support and help feed the families served by the House of Bread and Hands on Hartford. The money you set aside during Lent can be used to buy food to share with these families who worry about their next meal so they can have food in their cupboards during Holy Week and on Easter.
The attached flyer has all the details on what kind of food items are needed and when to bring your donations. You will see $38 will cover all the items listed and include plenty of bonus items.
If you would like to support this food drive and grocery shopping is not an option for you, monetary donations can also be made with checks payable to “House of Bread”. Checks can be dropped off on April 1 and 2 or placed in the collection basket in an envelope marked for the House of Bread.
