Memorial Lanterns for All Souls Day
We have a beautiful tradition of placing lanterns in our gardens for All Souls Day to remember those who have died in the last year.
We need many hands to help prepare this memorial!
We are specifically looking for 4 volunteers for next Sunday and 7 people for Wednesday afternoon, but here are all the times we will be gathering to set up the lanterns.
Sunday, October 29 – 9:15 am to 11:30ish, outdoors We will need 3 people to lay out the grid pattern and secure the lantern bases into the ground. We will watch the weather and may need to push the timing to the afternoon if we have torrential rain – this is a great job for confirmation candidates.
Sunday, October 29 – 9:15 am to 11:30ish, indoors We will need 3-5 individuals to unpack the lanterns, wipe them down, test the lantern”caps” to see whether the screws will work and clean up of any old labels.
Wednesday, November 1st 12:40 (after the 12:05 mass) outdoor and indoor opportunities. We will need 2-4 people to place the lanterns in the bases, 1 person to manage and supervise the placement in alphabetic order outside, 1 person to manage the labelling order inside, 2-3 people inside to light candles, place them in the lanterns, secure the lids.
Monday, November 6, 12:40 (after the 12:05 mass) outdoor and indoor opportunities. We will need 4 or more people to remove the lanterns – blow out the candles, remove and separate the pieces, wipe down the lanterns, remove the labels from the lids and stack them in boxes.
It sounds complicated only because so much happens at the same time, but it does all come together nicely. Please let us know what dates you are available to help – even if you can only commit an hour after mass that would be wonderful!
