Dear Parishioners and Friends,
Over the course of this weekend and next, our parish and local community will be involved in events that will touch many, if not most of us, in various ways.
Two of these events have to do with food. The first takes place this weekend – the annual Hartford Walk Against Hunger. Once again, our parishioners join many other walkers to make the circuit from Dunkin’ Park, around Bushnell Park, and back again in order to raise awareness of the struggle many people in our community deal with on a daily basis, and our desire to help feed their hunger in meaningful ways. The House of Bread is one of the principal providers of nourishment and meals for those who would otherwise go hungry. Our financial support, as well as the many parishioners who volunteer at the House of Bread, help to sustain this vital mission. Thank you to all who took part in the Walk Against Hunger, and who give of your time to nourish our hungry brothers and sisters.
The second event will take next weekend as our children will receive the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time at the 4:00 PM and 10:00 AM Masses. This is always a joyful occasion for any parish community as our children are led to the Lord’s table of the Eucharist and begin a lifetime of nourishment on the Bread of Life and the Cup of Salvation. I hope that none of us ever forgets the day when we received the Eucharist for the first time. I certainly remember mine, some 63 years ago.
Our Festival of the Eucharist, Feast of Joy & Remembrance, will take place less than a month from now. The announcement on the right will appear in every bulletin until then, and cards are available for you to take home and place on your refrigerator – what better place? It is my hope and prayer that the Festival will be a memorable event for our parish community, one which will strengthen our love for the Eucharist, and draw us closer together in the unity which the Eucharist is meant to signify.
Blessings on your week ahead!
