Our ministry is one of sacrificing for others, of taking care of those in the margins… because they are all children of God. Our partnership with GHIAA helps us reach out and do this hard work with like minded people from congregations from across our region. Based on the feedback from people in all 51 communities, GHIAA leaders chose five issues to focus on for this legislative session.
In case you missed Father Mike’s homily from a few weeks ago, he speaks about the end of the legislative session, an update on our advocacy work and the five issues we focused on through our involvement with GHIAA. Thank you for your support and lending your voice for the better.
Five issues from this session: an update
Our goal was to not cure these problems, but to make things better. Our work this session has helped us to make a difference in some areas, and not so much in others. There is more work to do. We will continue to fight for these issues.
We helped create positive change for education inequality, environmental justice, and gun violence, some improvements in increasing health care for undocumented children. Unfortunately, there is more work to do on the issues of fair share affordable housing and rent caps.
It makes a difference when you speak up.
Father Mike
