During Holy Week and throughout the Easter season, the Church for the most part puts aside the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, and focuses our attention on the Gospel according to St. John. He is our primary guide into the mystery of Christ’s saving death and resurrection during these most sacred days of the liturgical year.
In this six-week course, we will do a close reading of John’s gospel, explore its theological perspective, survey its major themes, and study the literary and dramatic techniques that powerfully and effectively serve John’s purpose in writing his account: “so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name” [John 20:31].
