The language of the prophets was often that of a lament: an expression of grief, loss and sorrow. The prophets expressed the desolation and alienation of the people of God throughout their history. At the same time, their proclamations would pass over into an affirmation that God would hear their cry for help and that deliverance would be forthcoming.
This prayer service is based on the concept of lament and includes 4 contemporary laments addressing the suffering in Ukraine, the Middle East, Haiti and Sudan. We, as a Church community, have been praying for the people living in these areas for weeks now as part of our Prayer of the Faithful during weekend Masses. The 4 contemporary laments have been composed by members of this parish.
This prayer service is sponsored by our Social Justice Committee, Women of Hope and Sister Parish Ministries.
Please join us in prayer and song in-person. The service will also be live-streamed. Reception at the Franciscan Center for Urban Ministry immediately following the service.
