“But ask the animals what they think—let them teach you;
let the birds tell you what’s going on.
Put your ear to the earth—learn the basics.
Listen—the fish in the ocean will tell you their stories.
Isn’t it clear that they all know and agree
that God is sovereign, that he holds all things in his hand—
Every living soul, yes,
every breathing creature?
Isn’t this all just common sense,
as common as the sense of taste?
Do you think the elderly have a corner on wisdom,
that you have to grow old before you understand life?”
Job 12: 7-12 (The Message)
Being stewards of God’s creation.
“St. Francis asked that part of the friary garden always be left untouched, so that wild flowers and herbs could grow there, and those who saw them could raise their minds to God, the Creator of such beauty.” Laudato Si (12) Have we taken the time to notice and appreciate God’s creation?
Last week we highlighted videos from parishes in Hampton, VA and Friendswood, TX as they addressed caring for God’s creation. This week we will hear from parishes in Ellicott City, MD and young Catholic leaders across the country.
Each of these videos are about three to five minutes long and introduce the work of U.S. Catholic communities as they respond to Laudato Si and Laudate Deum. This week we introduce the second two of six videos in the series. After all six videos are presented, we will have an opportunity for discussion.
The first video this week highlights the work of a ministry of the Franciscan Friars Conventual, providing fresh food to those in need while using sustainable farming methods to restore the health of the land.
The second video features young Catholic leaders who are acting on the climate crisis.
