The Exhibit in the Clare Gallery entitled “A Suspension of Perception” engages us with the reality of immigration at our southern border and with the challenges faced by new arrivals.
Help for the weary
Backpacks filled with personal care items and clothing
Two organizations, The Migrant Center and Grannies Respond, have been assisting adults and children by providing backpacks with personal care items and clothing to meet their immediate needs.
The Migrant Center is a ministry of the Franciscan community in NYC that has been serving the 22,000 migrants who have arrived over the past several months.
Involving our youth
Representatives from both organizations will be here on March 5 to speak with our Religious Education students along with artist Christine Breslin, and we’d like to make a donation of filled backpacks to help them help others in great need.
Our response
We have decided as a community that the focus of our response is to support the children who have accompanied their parents on their journey to the U.S.
We will be collecting personal care, clothing, educational and comfort items for children to assist The Migrant Center and Grannies Respond.
When
Primary collection will be during all weekend Masses on February 18-19 and February 25-26 and up through March 5 before the 8 am Mass, but donations can also be dropped off during regular business hours when the church office is open.
What we can do
Please see the below list for suggested items you can contribute. These items will be combined into backpacks that are being provided by a generous donation, so there is no need to donate backpacks, just items to fill them!
The backpacks full of these needed items will be sent to The Migrant Center and to Grannies Respond to be given to children.
The generous spirit of our SPSA community reaches locally as well as far and wide! How blessed we are to be able to make a difference in others’ lives!
