Our “Christmas in July” for St. Genevieve, our sister parish in Haiti, kicks off this weekend. The Christmas tree is up, with photo tag decorations, and committee members are available at all masses to share information about our covenant with our fellow Haitian parishioners. (Look for the Santa Hats!)
Lunches for all students and teacher salaries remain the primary beneficiaries of our support. But this year, due to the internal violence and destruction that has reached Zoranje, we have also given Pastor Gaby permission to help those in dire need of emergency support. Our last letter from Fr. Gaby explained that most parishioners, including himself, had to flee the village, and only sporadically return to check on their homes, school and the church.
Our spiritual support is also needed more than ever, and our prayers and petitions for Haiti remain critical, and a source of support for everyone at St. Genevieve, according to Fr. Gaby. Currently, no other sources of help are reaching St. Genevieve – our relationship is more vital than ever to help give them hope and sustenance to survive this unprecedented period.
Thank you – Mesi!
