The Franciscan Center was full of children bustling with activity for a few days during their last week of summer vacation, August 21-23, 2023. Our first three-day Art and Music Camp was a resounding success!
Our camper participants enjoyed three full days of Painting in the Garden during the mornings, and afternoons filled with Music from Around the World.

Mornings Spent Painting in the Garden
Each morning, the children worked with artist / catechist / parishioner Shannon McCarthy about light/dark and shadows, critiqued art masterpieces, and enjoyed many hours of creating oil paintings outside in the gardens with their own easel and paint palette.
Afternoons of Music
Our own music director, Gabriel Löfvall shared his gifts teaching music from Japan, Germany, Kenya, and others, along with rhythms, composing a group song, and exploring how the pipe organ in the church works – from the basement to the choir loft!
Guest artists, including Katie Frewen, music teacher and our new Church Street Singers Director, and music educator and songwriter / arranger Rob Hugh also made appearances to share music with the children.
Wednesday afternoon concluded with an art exhibit and final concert for family and friends. Definitely a success that we will look to offer next summer.
