The first trip to Zoranje was in September of 2004. Parishioner, Roberta Horton, along with others from St. Patrick – St. Anthony Church traveled to the village for the first time. This photo shows the very first meeting between our Parishes. “When we arrived, we were met by the children of Zoranje. Many wore no shoes; some were in torn or ill-fitting clothes; but oh, the faces, the shy, beautiful smiles! Even now, I can see them. I think I always will. The children came right up to us and held our hands. From the moment of our arrival to the time of our departure, whenever we walked the paths, we were surrounded by children vying for our attention and hoping to get a “polaroid photo”. They had never seen themselves, they had no idea of what they looked like.” The value of our covenant can be seen in this photo, and in the words written by Roberta. A valuable relationship that has continued to this day. It shows the value of our Covenant. Not only to the parishioners of St. Genevieve, but to the parishioners of St. Patrick – St. Anthony as well. |
