St. Patrick – St. Anthony Parish and the House of Bread have been helping one another since the friars came to Hartford over 30 years ago. Over time, the outreach has brought many people in need not only to the doors of the House of Bread, but also to the doors of the Franciscan Center for Urban Ministry. The wants (food, clothing, shelter) are similar and the desire to aid our sisters and brothers in need is the same – to offer dignity to those who seek our help.
It is fitting that one of the activities during the upcoming Ministry Fair weekend on October 19-20 is a Clothing Drive for these two entities – the House of Bread and the Franciscan Center. Earlier this week we celebrated the Feast of the Guardian Angels. To paraphrase Fr. Mike, let’s remember that we reflect their care and protection in our ministries. By doing a simple act of kindness – donating some basic clothing – you will manifest this “angelic” care and honor the Friars’ long-standing commitment to aid the homeless in Hartford.
How can you help?
You can help by supporting the Men’s Socks & Undergarment Drive being held after all Masses on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20. You are invited to donate by simply picking from the three items listed.
Socks – all sizes
Men’s t-shirts: Large and X-Large – new and slightly used
Men’s boxers: Large and X-Large
Volunteers will be in the Franciscan Center to collect clothing donations. It is our hope the spirit of giving to help those in need continues to be strong within our parish community and together we can support the Hartford community.
Want to donate but don’t have time to shop? We will also be collecting cash or checks for the Clothing Drive (checks made payable to the Franciscan Center).
Thank you so much for your generosity and willingness to help those in need.
